In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU
strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will
on Monday, November 4, meet with the
leadership of ASUU at the Presidential
Villa.
This was part of the resolutions of the
meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice
President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising
Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first
reported by this medium.
An official of the Vice President’s office
who pleaded anonymity said that all
hands are now on deck to ensure that
the universities resume next week.
The official stated that the Vice President and
the Supervising Minister of Education have
made head-way in resolving the strike, but
the final involvement of the President is to
show ASUU that there is the commitment of
the Federal Government at the highest level.
It was learnt that the President has been fully
briefed on steps taken by Vice President
Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister
of Education to get to this point and he will at
next Monday’s meeting present to the ASUU
leadership the administration’s last
concession for them to call off the prolonged
strike.
A source at the Presidential Villa noted
that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal
Government will then resort to plan B,
which will be to compulsorily open the
universities, using the instrumentality
of the governing councils and the school
managements.
Already, most of the governing councils of
the universities have started meeting to work
out modalities for the compulsory re-opening
of the universities should ASUU fail to honour
the personal request of President Jonathan.
According to report, the Supervising Minister
of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice
Chancellors of Public Universities also
discussed the re-opening of the schools last
Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors
suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts
fail. It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present.

Will this new development really work? Can the universities exist without ASUU? Who will run the universities if the lecturers are not involved? Well these questions will be answered soon. our fingers crossed.

10 Year Old Nigerian Girl, Zuriel Oduwole Makes Forbes History
Posted On: 7th August 2013By: NaijaurbanWith 0 Comments
Zuriel Elise Oduwole, an extraordinary and amazing 10-year-old of Nigerian-American heritage, has made history as the youngest person ever to be interviewed in Forbes. The interview with the award winning documentary film maker, conference speaker and writer is featured in the August 2013 edition of Forbes Africa.
At just 10, whizkid Zuriel possesses amazing talent that has resulted in her interviewing business leaders, current and past world leaders and heads of states.
They include the current Presidents of Tanzania, Mauritius, and Malawi–one of Africa’s only two female national leaders. Others are ex-presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Kufuor of Ghana. Zuriel has also had a one-on-one interview with Africa’s most successful businessman, Mr. Aliko Dangote. She even got a standing ovation for her sets of provoking and creatively intelligent questions to tennis superstars, Venus & Serena Williams, during their world press conference in Nigeria.
Zuriel says she has not been granted an interview by the President of Nigeria because of his busy schedules but hopes to achieve that soon.
Zuriel (which is Hebrew for God is my Rock) believes if she can walk a mile, then there are girls who on seeing her work and progress made, would walk a mile and half.

She is truly a whizkid

Two 500 level students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ilorin, Ali David and Patrick Effiong, have constructed an aircraft prototype.
The duo told newsmen in Ilorin that they had nurtured the passion to construct the aircraft when they were in 100 level, adding that it was now their final year project.
David noted that many of his colleagues were skeptical when they first broached the subject, adding that they were not deterred by the challenges they faced.
“What we are actually working on is a machine that will lift up itself through the law of aerodynamics and having an engine, a propeller and the fuselage,” he added.
Effiong, on his part, said: “With some of our lecturers backing us, we were motivated; we decided that we can carry out the construction.
“Ali brought the idea to me that he had the dream of constructing an aircraft, but I didn’t really buy the idea then and I thought he had forgotten about it.
“ So when we got to 400 level, he raised the idea again.’’
Also speaking with newsmen, the project supervisor, Dr Tajudeen Ajiboye, said the students had demonstrated a high level of intellectualism inspite of the challenges they faced.
Ajiboye, who said the students were faced with the problems of materials and manpower at the initial stage, commended them for their tenacity to accomplish the project. (NAN)

It is good to see that Nigerian students are taking up the mantle of creativity and ingenuity to engage in such laudable project. We hope the government would create a more soothing environment so that our youths would be encouraged to be more creative and productive. Who knows! Nigeria would become one of the most technologically advanced nation of the world.

Toheeb Okenla and P.Diddy

Toheeb Okenla and P.Diddy

In an entrepreneurship competition held at The Times Center in New York City recently, rapper and business mogul, Sean Combs, aka P.Diddy was on ground to speak with the participants on how to run their own businesses and being self-made bosses.
At the event, which was created by The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) – an organization that empowers teens through entrepreneurship education, four finalists emerged. The finalists are, Juny Nguyen, Jesus Fernandez, Dagim Girma and Toheeb Okenla.
At the end, Toheeb Okenla and Jesus Fernandez, from South Holland, Illinois, beat out 38 teen competitors with their business plan for T&J Soccer. T&J Soccer is a manufacturing and retail business that sells soccer socks with pockets sewn into them for inserts that protect players’ shins during soccer games.
Meanwhile, P.Diddy after a private coaching session with the top finalists donated $250K to the NFTE group for supporting teen’s entrepreneurs, while Toheeb Okenla and Jesus Fernandez-Ortiz were awarded $25,000 for taking the first place.

This is a nice initiative by the ace musician Sean Combs aka P.Diddy.
What are our Nigerian musicians doing? How are they giving back to the society? All we hear about them is how much millions they spend in purchasing big cars, houses, wrist watches and even bags!!!
They should wake up and begin to think of giving back to the society that made them.
As the saying goes, to whom much is given, much is EXPECTED.

Nigeria Union of Petroleum and
Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, weekend,
threatened stop distribution of petroleum
products across the country if the Federal
Government failed to implement the
agreement reached with the Academic Staff
Union of Universities, ASUU.
Though no specific date was fixed for the
commencement of the soliarity strike, the
union said the strike became necessary in
view of the lingering ASUU crisis which the
government had failed to resolve in the last
three months.
NUPENG President, Igwe Achese, who spoke
at the union’s National Administrative
Council, NAC, meeting, weekend in Lagos,
said NUPENG was not happy at the crisis
facing public university system in the
country.
He blamed the crisis on government’s failure
to honour agreements, lamenting that this
had led to the proliferation of strikes in
nearly all sectors of the economy since the
beginning of the year.
According to him: “We appeal to government
to implement agreement reached with ASUU
so that students can go back to school. If the
crisis in the sector is not resolved, we will
soon direct our members to embark on
solidarity strike.”
Achese blamed the Ministry of Labour for
failing in its responsibility to check the
break-down and abuse of laws governing
industrial relations practice in the country by
employers including government.
“The Ministry of Labour needs to be proactive
if we must get these issues nipped in the
bud. The ministry also needs to make sure
that agreements reached or communiqué
signed are implemented.
“The ministry has a big role to play to avert
strikes in the country. When unions begin to
lose faith in the ministry that is when we
have this kind of crisis. The labour minister
should be firm in making sure that the right
decisions are taken.
“As it is now, every activity in the Ministry of
Labour is in the office of the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation, SGF, which
ought not to be so. The role of the SGF
should be to intervene only when the need
arises.”
It would be recalled that the NUT last week
gave the Federal Government two weeks
ultimatum to honour the agreement it
reached with ASUU or face total shut-down of
the education sector in the country.

Success to you all!

The shape or Nature of our society,
Is nothing but the Duty or Beauty of our Creativity.

Do you know why we subsist on a stage of inequality?
Do you know why the underdeveloped Nations are Known for their over Dependency?
Do you know why so many Still struggle in land of vast opportunity and sources of Energy?
Because when some took responsibility for their Creative ABILITY some with levity placed their Creativity in Mental CAPTIVITY.

Oh! Creativity a special Gem Stone we Can not Find in the Market, but we can always pay for its products.

Like a needle in the hands of a surgeon
And a spanner in the hands of a mechanic, Creativity is a Special stone given to every man to climb to the top of the Heirachical pyramid of Human Needs.

However, the mind is like a college with different Faculties, but creativity is a special department that’s responsible for organizing and developing our unstable society.
But some passed through the Faculties of LEARNING while so many failed in the Faculties of EARNING.

Why?….Because they are Educated But not Enlightened, they are schooling But not Learning so they look outside for opportunities but never look INSIDE for CREATIVITY.

That’s why everyday I Desire to be called a creativity celebrity like Micheal Faraday or the Creator of Ebay,

Because every time they poor out the Content of their Creative ability they Break down the huge mountains of our global pains and difficulty into small rubbles of Global SIMPLICITY.
Cos’ they embrace the Beauty of Creativity in HUMANITY

Let me tell you it was Creativity that created the Basket of Knowledge and information(#internet) and made it hang on Space.

It was creativity that #LeonardoDa’Vinci used to paint the Beautiful Portrait Monallisa.

Was it not creativity that Micheal Angelo, used to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Italy for four years?

Was it not Creativity that witty Mark Zuckerberg used to build and designed the Facebook?

Was it not Creativity that #BillGates used to Established the #Microsoft Empire.

We have the same eye but diffrent perspectives for creativity some see it as an adaptive feature, while Genius sees it as a productive and a constructive feature.

Many years ago, I was waisting and existing in the society cos’ it was destructive and wasteful to see through the eyes of Myopic Majority.

Like a mighty cathedral Bell everyday my expectations, my daily need and unborn child rang on my head with a trembling sound, cos’ I had long conceived the notion that we all came without nothing and shall do without nothing,

But the question remains do you wanna live an empty legacy for your Posterity?

Like a cracking egg my life was becoming awful, until I made a good friend that’s insightful and impactful, because I had decided to think outside the Box and make my ideas spread like Small Pox.

She said, “a Nation that fails to Embrace the well-spring of creativity will always remain an Epitome of POVERTY”.

And that, “we are all mobile Factories”
I said “how?”
She said, “cos’ we all carry the creative ability proffer solutions to the problems in our unstable society”.

But our total mental productivity is determined by the quality and quantity of information we process by our creative ability.

In these era of information velocity, the size of creativity is not measured by our physical maturity but mental maturity,

Because your productivity determines your PROFITABILITY
Your profitability determine your opportunity, but only your creativity determines your FLEXIBILITY

Then with my eyes focused on the future like a flood light, I look earnestly for the time,
A time when we shall bend to the call of our inner Ability, and Ignore the yellings of our IN-ABILITY,

A time when we shall unleash our creativity and prove to the world that our skin color is never a symbol of inferiority, but a package of untapped creativity waiting to astound humanity in the right OPPORTUNITY.

Last year on June 3rd 2012 there was a plane crash in Nigeria in which over 163 people were killed. The plane was owned by Dana Air.
The day before that on June 2nd 2012 a Nigerian cargo plane owned by Kabo Air left our shores and flew to Accra, Ghana where it overshot the runway, crashed into the main road behind the airport and killed many Ghanaian motorists.
What made this all the more tragic was the fact that Ghana had never experienced a plane crash at Kotoka International Airport before this incident. It is a pity that it had to be a Nigerian plane, with a Nigerian crew and cargo that had to break that enviable record.

Before the first crash took place last year and between the two major crashes there were numerous other smaller ones involving light aircraft, private jets, military planes and helicopters that were not publicised. All these unfortunate events occurred under the tenure of Princess Stella Oduah, who is the current Minister of Aviation. Under her watch, close to 200 souls have been killed in air crashes in the last two years alone.
Over one year later on 3rd October 2013, which was last Thursday, there was yet another plane crash in Nigeria in which 13 people died. Worse still, the following day, 4th October 2013…
A Saudi Arabian-bound Nigerian plane which was owned by Kabo Airline and which was carrying
400 passengers on board from Sokoto, almost crashed when both its tyres exploded mid-air and
it had to crash land. Had that plane actually
crashed we would have lost another 400 precious
souls on that day.
This does not surprise me given the nature of the
individual that is involved. What does surprise me
however is the fact that just one day after those
that perished in the latest crash were killed,
before the victims were buried, before the site of
the crash was cleared, whilst the charred bodies
and burnt parts of the victims still lay at the crash
site and before any formal investigation into the
causes of the crash have commenced, the ruling
PDP, through their spokesman Chief Olisa Metuh,
has told the world that they have “full confidence”
in Stella Oduah and that “she should be allowed
to continue her good work”.
Is there any greater evidence of the fact that the
PDP is a sick party that is led by sick people than
this? Such insensitivity is rarely seen anywhere in
the world. Only in Nigeria can this happen. Not
only am I surprised but I am also utterly
disgusted. How many more people have to be
killed in air crashes before our President realises
that he needs a new Minister of Aviation?
The truth is that there is more to aviation than
beautifying airports. The first and most important
consideration has to be the safety of the
passengers and the airworthiness of the planes
followed by a solemn and avowed commitment to
ensure the discipline, professionalism and
efficiency of the aviation parastatals. Most important of all when a plane crashes, whatever the reasons or causes, the Minister ought to assume full responsibility and even offer his or her resignation. Failing that he or she ought to be redeployed to another ministry or completely removed from the cabinet.
This is because it is his
or her primary responsibility to keep air travellers safe and alive.
Sadly it does not appear that this is likely to happen anytime soon. As a matter of fact I am convinced that even if 1,000 people were killed in air crashes in the space of just 6 months under President Goodluck Jonathan he would still not redeploy or sack Stella Oduah because our President just “doesn’t give a damn”.

Each time a plane crashes it saddens me deeply because to anyone that has ever worked there before aviation is like a family. Worse still those people that lost their lives were our people – they were our fellow Nigerians. It really does hurt.
Suffice it to say that there were no air crashes under my watch and not one drop of blood was
spilt from the air whilst I was Minister of Aviation,
whether it be passenger plane, private jet, helicopter or light aircraft. I thank God for that because if it had happened I would not have been
able to sleep at night. I am the only Minister of Aviation in Nigeria between 2002 to date that can
lay claim to that. I put it down to hard work,
prayer and the grace of God and nothing else.
Unlike some others I was literally paranoid when it
came to air safety and security because it was
obvious to me that there was more to the whole
thing than meets the eye.
Permit me to go into a little detail. The year before
I became Minister of Aviation there were 5 plane
crashes and 453 people perished from our skies.
The airlines that crashed were Bellview (2005),
Sosolisso (2006), a Nigerian military plane
carrying a large number of senior army officers
(2006), ADC (2006) and a private light aircraft in
Kano which had on board the adopted son of the
PDP National Chairman Ahmadu Ali and a pilot
(2006). At the time that all these crashes took
place Professor Babalola Borisade was the Minister
of Aviation. In November 2006 Borisade was
redeployed to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism
where I was Minister and I was sent to Aviation
and by the grace of God from that point on my
team and I, with the full backing and support of
President Olusegun Obasanjo, put a stop to the
crashes and we broke the cycle.
We left office in May 2007 and almost
immediately after that the standard dropped
again and the cycle of terrible air crashes returned
to our shores. They have not stopped since. As I
pointed out in another essay which I wrote last
year after the Dana crash, 90 per cent of the
crashes that have taken place in Nigeria in the
last 11 years have taken place at weekends. That
in itself is strange but what is even stranger is the
fact that there are two “ten year cycles” of major
crashes that have been in operation in our country
since 1992. I call them ”sacrificial cycles”.
The details are as follows. There was a major crash
in 1992 (C-130 military airplane in which 160
army officers were killed). Ten years later there
was a second major crash in 2002 (EAS Airline in
which 105 people were killed). Ten years later
there was a third major crash in 2012 (Dana
Airline in which 163 were killed). This represents
the first ”ten year cycle” of crashes and if it is not
broken there will be another major crash in 2022
which will result in a large loss of life.
The second ”ten year cycle” began in 1996 when
ADC crashed with the loss of over 160 lives.
This was followed by another crash ten years later in 2006 which involved another plane from ADC and which again resulted in the loss of over 160 lives. If the cycle is not broken I have little doubt that there will be another major crash in Nigeria in 2016. These observations have nothing to do with superstition but they are based on painstaking research, facts and logic. There have many other big and small crashes within and between the dates of the two major ”ten year cycles” but what seems amazing and strange to me is the recurrent and definitive pattern of the ten year cycles themselves. It is almost as if it is some kind of pagan or religious obligation or debt that is being paid to some hidden and dark forces.
Some may dismiss all this as mere coincidence but the actual day and month that all those crashes took place on tells another story which I will not go into here. Whatever anyone else may believe or think I have no doubt whatsoever in my mind that there is a spiritual dimension to these matters and I have been saying so publicly since I was at Aviation. Other than sheer hard work, an insistence on full compliance with safety standards and the display of the most rigorous form of discipline from the top to the bottom, in order to break these patterns and cycles of crashes and protect our skies, much prayer and intercession is required. There are a number of other rather startling and strange patterns as well but I am not prepared to share those with the public in order not to create any panic.
One thing that I know though is that God is in control and that, as the Bible says, “He reveals to redeem”. There is absolutely no cause for any fear or alarm. I have written and spoken many times on this. I have pointed out the problems over and over again and suggested how it can be stopped.
It may not stop though because there are some depraved people in our country that do not want it to stop, that benefit from it, that delight in it and that believe in it. This is the bitter truth. That, together with the fact that in Nigeria, not enough people care for or truly value human life. We only
pretend to care.

One last point. I find it nauseating and distasteful that some people would relish the fact that the corpse of Governor Agagu went through all that it did when he was being flown to Akure for his final burial rites and that they seemed almost joyful at the fact that the plane crashed resulting in the loss of all those innocent souls. This is a disgrace and I feel utterly outraged by it. The shameful refrain, which is all over the social media, is that Agagu somehow deserved to die a ”second death” from the skies because “hundreds of people” had supposedly been killed in plane crashes under his watch as Minister of Aviation. This is false and
malicious.
Only God knows how each of us will come to our
end and it is simply not true to say that the
massive harvest of deaths that took place in the
aviation industry whilst President Obasanjo was in
power did so under Agagu’s watch. He was
appointed Minister of Aviation in 1999 and
remained there until 2001 when he was
redeployed to the Ministry of Power by President
Obasanjo. I am aware of the fact that on January
5th 2000 there was a Skypower Express Airways
crash at Abuja airport in which 17 people lost
their lives. I am also aware of the fact that there
was another crash of a Dornier airplane in the
Niger Delta area on Oct. 26th 2000 in which 6
people were injured but no lives were lost. These
crashes did indeed take place under Agagu’s
tenure as Minister of Aviation.
However, other than the beginning of the two
sacrificial cycles that began in 1992 and 1996 respectively, the string of consistent major crashes in Nigeria really began in 2002 when EAS
Airline crashed in Kano killing over 105 people including the then Minister of Sports, Mr. Mark Aku. At the time of that crash Mrs. Kema Chikwe was Minister of Aviation and not Agagu.

The most pronounced years of tragedy and carnage in aviation, which involved 6 major crashes and numerous smaller ones in a row, were really between 2002 and November 2006 when the carnage was finally brought to a halt. Sadly it began again almost immediately after we left office in May 2007 when small planes, light aircraft and helicopters started dropping from the sky.
Then came the mysterious ”disappearance” with a number of fatal casualties of Governor James Ibori’s ”Wings Aviation” plane from our skies in 2008 and things really went downhill from there. In the last 11 years, between 2002 and 2013 over 850 people have been killed in air crashes in Nigeria- 453 of them under Borisade and just under 200 of them under Stella Oduah.
This is an atrocious record of air safety and I believe that I am right in saying that it is a peace-time world record.
Whatever the case it is nothing to be proud of and it reflects badly on all of us, particularly those of us that were once Ministers of Aviation.
I have done my research and I have the details of every single crash that has taken place in this country over the last eleven years whether it be a private plane, light aircraft, military aircraft, passenger plane or helicopter. As long as such a crash resulted in the loss of life I have the record of it and all the details. None of those crashes took place under the watch of Dr. Segun Agagu because he ceased to be Minister of Aviation in 2001. I implore those that are doing so to stop attributing the sad events that preceded his burial to some kind of divine retribution for what purportedly occurred when he was Minister of Aviation.
Nothing can be more cruel than this and nothing could be further from the truth.

Permit me to end this contribution with a few words to the families of those that were lost in the crash.
It is always a painful thing when we lose someone dear and this is especially so when it happens in such a painful and violent manner. My heart goes out to each and every family that lost their loved ones in this latest crash. May the Lord comfort each and every one of them and may He
heal their wounds with the balm of Gilead. My commiserations also goes to the people of Ondo state and particularly to my dear friend and brother Governor Olusegun Mimiko who is a man
that I have tremendous respect for, a practising and commited christian and a man of immense integrity and spiritual fortitude.

To my dear brothers that were lost in that terrible
crash themselves, including Mr. Tunji Okunsanya
and his son Tunji jnr. (whose MIC company buried
both of my parents in 1995 and 2001
respectively), Mr. Deji Falae who was the
Commissioner of Culture and Tourism for Ondo state and so many others, I say the following- may God have mercy upon you. May He forgive you of
all your sins. May He cause His face to shine upon
you. May He grant you peace eternal. May you abide with Him in eternity. May your souls be blessed forever.

May the watchman and the
boatman grant you safe passage into the higher
realms. May the halls of Valhalla, where the brave
shall live forever, be open unto to you.
May you never be forgotten and may your names
wax strong in our hearts and minds from
generation to generation. May the memory of your
beautiful smiles continue to give us strength and
bring us hope. You were a real blessing to so
many. Rest in peace. Until we meet again.

More than 500 prospective Nigerian law students
who are expected to commence the 2013/2014
law school programme by the end of October
may boycott the programme.
Their reason for the likely boycott is hinged on
posting of students to campuses under the state
of emergency, against their choices by the
authorities of the school.
The affected students accused the school
authorities of insensitivity to security of life saying
the campuses under state of emergency ought to
have been suspended given the terrible situation
of insecurity in those states.
According to some of the students who spoke to
our reporter on condition of anonymity, the law
school authorities posted them to Yola and Kano
campuses without minding the security
implications involved.
They expressed serious fear over the rampant
insecurity in the affected states and called on the
Ministries of Education and Justice as well as the
Presidency to prevail on the law school authorities
to repost them to secure areas before it becomes
too late.
Most of the prospective law students affected by
the posting had chosen four law school campuses
according to their preferences as provided in the
admission form they filled to indicate their
intention for participating in the 2013/2014
programme.
When the admission list was published last
Sunday however, it became clear that the Law
school authorities did not consider the voluntary
choices of the prospective students
before posting them to those dangerous areas.
Traditionally, prospective Law students are
entitled to four campuses of their choice in order
of preference and these are often filled in the
application form long before postings are done.
Strangely, however, most of those posted to the
state of emergency areas this year did not choose
any of those areas and none of their preferred
areas was considered in the posting exercise.
Unless an urgent action is taken by the
government to rectify the posting situation most
of the affected students may not go to law school
this year a situation that is capable of aggravating
the already tensed education condition in the
country.
Meanwhile, the enrolment for law school this year
is lower than those of the previous years due to
the ongoing industrial strike embarked upon by
the Association of University Unions (ASUU) which
prevented most final year law students from
graduating and meeting the schedule of law
school this year.
Following its establishment by the federal
government in 1962, the Nigerian Law School
(NLS) was situated in the former federal capital of
Lagos until 1996 when the late General Sani
Abacha regime moved it to the new federal
capital of Abuja.
Subsequently, NLS was decentralized thereby
paving way for six campuses with one located in
each of the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The campuses are located in Kano, Northwest;
Yola, Northeast; Abuja, North-Central and Lagos,
Southwest. Others are Enugu, Southeast and
Yenogua, South-south.
Two of the geopolitical zones (Northwest and
Northeast) are now affected by the insecurity
engendered Boko Haram insurgents who claim to
be fighting for the obliteration of western
education in Nigeria.

A spectacular mind

A spectacular mind

He is a genius, a comedian with the touch of unique excellence, he is very funny and he is an extremely talented master of ceremony. Above all, he is a spectacular and gifted mind. Let’s get to know him up close and personal in this insightful interview with kampuswindows.

KW: let’s get to meet you
HUMMER: my name is Nwanni Orire Lucky, and I am the third child in a family of five. I attended Expressway Nursery & Primary school Lagos and flourish college Lagos as well. Right now, I am a 300L computer science student of UNIBEN

KW: How did you come about the name Hummer?
HUMMER: When we were in secondary school, at the start of a new term I used to stroke people because of their shoes and give their shoes different names. I remember telling a guy that his shoe looks like a flying boat and when a friend of mine called Blessing asked me what name would I give to mine, I simply said Hummer! And since then, the name stuck with me.

KW: what inspired you to go into comedy?
Hummer: Comedy to me is like a lifestyle. When I was in primary school, I used to make the class to laugh. And I began to see comedy as a profession when I was in secondary school.

KW: What makes you unique as a comedian?
Hummer: What makes me unique is that I see comedy as a lifestyle. Most people are not aware that there are more jokes in the Bible than anywhere else.

KW: Are you saying that your jokes are gospel inspired?
HUMMER: Yes! I used to be under the mentorship of one of my very good brother, C. D. John of blessed memory who told me that there are many jokes that lies in the Bible so I read my Bible a lot and lots of other inspirational books.

KW: What are your goals in five years to come?
HUMMER: Where I see myself, if someone is not wearing shades, he or she will get blind because it is going to be massive.

KW: What are your achievements as a comedian.
HUMMER: I started off by begging to be featured in events, then it got to a level where I was invited to events without being paid, then it came to a point where I was invited but paid very little, to a level where I was paid very well. Then I started appearing on flyers, banners and different TV shows. I have worked with the likes of Kofi on stage, SACO( senior advocate of comedy), the likes of Emeka Smith, Mc Shakara, and I have even hosted events by different companies such as Diamond bank end of the year party, fourth night events and a host of others.

KW: What challenges have you faced as a comedian?
HUMMER: The challenges I have faced have been numerous. Like I said earlier that there was a time when I used to beg for shows, sometimes I would trek long distances to venues of events. Distances as far as from Ketu to Ikorodu in Lagos and such distances like from Maingate to Ring road in Benin without being paid a dine after the event which meant that I had to trek back home.

KW: Who would you say is your role model in the comedy industry?
HUMMER: one person I respect so well is Holy Mallam. I have met him once or twice. And from what I see about him, he is my perfect mentor.

KW: What was your worst moment on stage?
HUMMER: My worst moment on stage happened when I was in secondary school, during our end of the year party. I made a grammatical blunder in English when on stge and I felt really embarrassed because my teachers and every other important person was in attendance.

KW: What advice can you give to youths out there who have not discovered their true stand in the society.
HUMMER: My advice to such youths is that there are about seven billion people in the world, and every person knows how to do something differently from one another. So to anyone who has not yet discovered his or her talents, I would say that you are wasting time because when you die, you will do so with a whole lot of talent wasted and hidden inside of you.

KW: Thank you very much Mc Hummer for granting us this interview. We wish you the best of success and the greatest of achievements in your career.
HUMMER: You are welcome. It has been my pleasure.

You too can become a spectacular mind, if only you would choose to inspire someone with your life today!

Medical advances mean it will soon be possible to bring the dead back to life, a doctor claims.
Modern techniques will enable a patient to be revived up to 24 hours after they stop breathing, Dr Sam Parnia says.
The American critical care physician, who trained in London, said: ‘We may soon be rescuing people from death’s clutches hours, or even longer, after they have actually died.’
He claims the US actor James Gandolfini, star of The Sopranos – who died in June aged 51 in Rome – might have survived if he had suffered his massive heart attack in New York.
‘I believe if he died here, he could still be alive. We’d cool him down, pump oxygen to the tissues, which prevents them from dying,’ Dr Parnia told Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine. ‘Clinically dead, he could then be cared for by the cardiologist. He would make an angiogram, find the clot, take it out, put in a stent and we would restart the heart.’
Dr Parnia, whose new book on resuscitation science is called Erasing Death, said death should be reversible for many patients, providing they are in the right place getting the right treatment.
‘Of course we can’t rescue everybody and many people with heart attacks have other major problems,’ he said. ‘But if all the latest medical technologies and training had been implemented, which clearly hasn’t been done, then in principle the only people who should die and stay dead are those that have an underlying condition that is untreatable.
‘A heart attack is treatable. Blood loss as well. A terminal cancer isn’t, neither are many infections with multiresistant pathogens. In these cases, even if we’d restart the heart, it would stop again and again.
‘My basic message: The death we commonly perceive today in 2013 is a death that can be reversed.’ Dr Parnia, head of intensive care at the Stony Brook University Hospital in New York, said resuscitation figures tell their own story.
The average resuscitation rate for cardiac arrest patients is 18 per cent in US hospitals and 16 per cent in Britain. But at his hospital it is 33 per cent – and the rate peaked at 38 per cent earlier this year.
‘Most, but not all of our patients, get discharged with no neurological damage whatsoever,’ he said, adding that it is a ‘widely held misconception’ – even among doctors – that the brain begins to suffer massive damage from oxygen deprivation three to five minutes after the heart stops.
‘In the past decade we have seen tremendous progress. With today’s medicine, we can bring people back to life up to one, maybe two hours, sometimes even longer, after their heart stopped beating and they have thus died by circulatory failure.
‘In the future, we will likely get better at reversing death.’
The techniques he advocates are not cryogenics – freezing the body immediately after death – but cooling it down to best preserve brain cells while keeping up the level of oxygen in the blood. This buys time to fix the underlying problem and restart the heart, he claims.
He says that if someone collapses with a heart attack, call 999 then immediately place bags of frozen vegetables on them until the ambulance arrives, as it helps protect the brain.
‘It is possible that in 20 years, we may be able to restore people to life 12 hours or maybe even 24 hours after they have died.
‘You could call that resurrection, if you will. But I still call it resuscitation science.’

At least eight people died in a plane crash that occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos around 9.20 am this morning. Several others feared injured. The plane was conveying the body of the former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Agagu.
An Associated Airline jet with seven crew and 20 passengers flying to Akure, Ondo was carrying passengers heading for the burial of former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Agagu, a spokesman for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency said.
Some sources, however, report nine people to be killed.
According to some, reports, the jet was also conveying the body of Agagu who perished a week ago.
Some of the passengers who perished in the air crash are believed to be family members of the late governor and officials of Ondo state government.
The plane nose-dived from into a building in the area less than a minute after take-off. Aviation Ministry spokesman, Joe Obi, said:
“The plane couldn’t lift properly so it just came down. ”Some persons are being rushed to hospital. A few dead bodies have been recovered, but there are survivors.”
The crash occurred at the local wing of the airport close to the section were JET-A1, plane fuel, is stored.
Fire service officials were seen evacuating the occupants of the plane.
“There’s a lot of smoke coming from the runway, but we can’t get access to it. There are fire-fighters rushing to the scene,” Rasaki Rhakod, who runs a car service around the airport said.

The Federal Government, yesterday, appealed to Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, to shelve its proposed solidarity strike with Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
The Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, made the appeal in Abuja, at a meeting with the members of NUT on the proposed industrial action.
It will be recalled that the NUT on September 26, 2013, gave Federal Government two weeks ultimatum to honour the agreement they had with ASUU or face total shutdown of the education sector in the country.
The Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, who was present at the meeting, said the Federal Government has already implemented 80 per cent of the 2009 Agreement they had with ASUU.
According to Wike, “The 2009 agreements with ASUU have a number of issues and I want to tell you that the Federal Government, has already met 80% of the critical needs. It is remaining only two major components which are earned allowances, and they are expecting the Federal Government to release N400billion annually for infrastructural development.
“ASUU now asked the Federal Government to develop the universities annually, and it shouldn’t be part of Federal budget and not part of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, and that the Federal Government should allocate N400 billion for capital projects in the universities. This is not realistic, because we have Polytechnics and colleges of education”.
Most universities haven’t accessed their 2012 intervention funds so there are still funds for them.
On earned allowances he said: “The N30billion was for a start and then if it is not enough we would find a way to pay ASUU.”
The Minister of Labour, Mr. Wogu in his contribution said, discussion with ASUU is still ongoing, and that dialogue has not broken down.
“One thing that is clear is that Federal Government has started implementing the 2009 agreement so if there are grey areas, the appropriate thing to do is to settle it. The thing is that those grey areas cannot be settled when ASUU is on strike, the grey areas can still be settled if they go back to the classrooms. I think the issue is going back to the classrooms, intimidations would not resolve it, but for all hands to be on deck to resolve it.
“We have got to a stage where even ASUU has realised that government has done enough towards the implementation of the 2009 agreement.”
About the proposed sympathy strike of NUT he said: “I want to appeal to you to call off the proposed threat of strike. We just want to reassure that Federal Government would soon resolve the ASUU strike. Do not compound what is on ground, but rather suggest solution to government on how to end the strike.”
In his response the President of Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Comrade Alogba Olukoya, said the union was not happy at the state of education in the country.”

My candid opinion is that a total shutdown of our educational system would make the federal government to stand on their toes and salvage the bleak future of our youths.

The complete article. Read on.

I live and work in the oldest permanent settlement West of the Rocky Mountains, Astoria, Oregon. The
only chain store downtown is JCPenney and it’s housed right alongside independent shops in the kind of facade typical to the downtown’s of the
West.

My typical day starts with an hour or two of work at
Street 14 Coffee. After a few hours in my home office, I might move on to the brewery–the 10th fastest growing brewery in the country–where my
boyfriend works. Inevitably, my day includes a brisk walk through downtown and alongside the Columbia River. It often ends at Astoria Coffee House & Bistro–whose $3 taco night on Thursdays is not to be missed.

My friends and I often discuss the state of business in Astoria today. It’s booming. It’s diverse. And it’s fun.
But that doesn’t mean that every business that opens shop in downtown Astoria will succeed.

Many will not. And what almost always predicts the success or failure of a new business is capital.
Businesses that fail in Astoria are under-
capitalized.

The Undercapitalization Dilemma

In a brick and mortar business, undercapitalization
is a money problem. A business cannot acquire the
funds they need to meet operational expenses,
which causes it to become over-exposed to risk. Or
it can be a business that does not have expansion
funds to meet market demand.
As a result, under-capitalized businesses display
cheap-looking fixtures or their equipment isn’t top
notch. The owner’s salary is non-existent, let alone
good help is unaffordable so the store is often
closed. The people who do work at the
establishment are untrained and uninterested in
the success of the business. There’s not enough
money to reach new customers so the website
remains unfinished, the Facebook page is unloved,
and email marketing is simply a pipe dream.
It takes capital to start a business, even in a town
where life is relatively cheap and business is
booming.
Traditionally, a lack of capital has long been the
biggest barrier to entry for entrepreneurship. If you
don’t have money, know people with money, or
have access to other forms of real capital (i.e. land,
equipment, etc.) you couldn’t start a business — no
matter how good your ideas. The problem is even
more rampant for microbusiness owners; a
company with “less than five employees, small
enough to require little capital ($35,000 or less) to
get started (Source: SBA.gov).
However, today, in the You Economy, capital looks
different. No longer is it money in the bank or your
name on a deed of land; ideas are capital.

Idea’s are the New Capital

Recently, a server at a restaurant I frequent asked
me if I had a job or if I just drag my laptop around
to different breweries to look busy. Obviously, the
answer is the latter.
I explained that I help people who are interested in
growing businesses; and instead of filling up office
buildings full of staff and equipment, I deliver a
regular dividend on their ideas.
To put it another way: I help people get a bigger return on investment for their ideas. Because ideas are the new capital. As such, I only work with
businesses that are properly capitalized in that department.
But what do I mean when I say “There’s an undercapitalization problem in the world of microbusiness?”

All too often I see business owners following someone else’s model, vying for a piece of an established idea pie, instead of investing in their
own ideas.

That is not to say that you need a big idea to have a properly capitalized microbusiness.

It doesn’t mean that you need to have the secret sauce to disrupt an existing market and turn an industry on its
head.

Instead, when I see this form of capital paying the highest returns it comes from obsession, a learning mindset, and a willingness to take big risks. It manifests through social media, guerrilla
networking, and clandestine projects. It springs forth through clever marketing campaigns, targeted email updates, and why-hasn’t-someone-thought-of-that-before products.
Have you ever noticed that the people who are truly succeeding in microbusiness aren’t the people who have followed some preordained system? Set their websites up to meet norms? Or conducting business by the book?
The people who truly succeed are investing idea capital.
They’re taking big risks; doing things against the grain.

They’re obsessed with exploring new angles and charting new territory.
Igniting Your Creative Engine
Let’s consider a real-life case study — Erin Giles an entrepreneur dedicated to helping businesses find their cause and create a movement. Giles recently launched the End Sex Trafficking project. And it’s one monstrous idea.
Last year she published a book by raising $10,000, this year she’s working directly with organizations who are creating change on this front. And she’s recruited top talent in the idea industry and produced creative products to support her vision.
This example proves that your idea doesn’t have to
“world changing” in the traditional sense, however

In 2012 I interviewed Stephanie Alford, the founder of Space Cadet Creations, about her first 5-figure month earnings as a yarn-dyer. Over the last few months, Stephanie has messaged me to let me know–multiple times–when she’s cracked 5-figure days.

I would attribute her financial success to an unceasing ability to turn very simple ideas, like her mini-skein club, into capital. Once Stephanie has an idea, she turns on her creative engine to continue to produce ideas that fuel her initial investment.
Had Stephanie done everything she could to “optimize her Etsy shop” or had Erin ventured down the typical solopreneur service path, neither would be featured in top publications, bringing more revenue than they had dreamed, or earning the praise of their colleagues and customers.

There is a fine line between learning the how-to of something and defaulting to someone else’s best practices. In the end, your ideas are the capital that makes your business work.
Don’t be frustrated when ideas come as fast and
furious as you had hoped. Use them. Take risks.
Experiment. Obsess. Learn what turns you on.
Learn what turns your customers on. Venture into
new territory. Dare to be disagreeable.
And, by all means, don’t worry about doing things the right way.
Find people who will support your crazy ideas–your obsession, your learning, your risk-taking–and help you turn that capital into a strong investment in your future.

PUBLIC universities system in the
country is heading for a total shutdown as
members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of
Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU,
will tomorrow begin a nationwide strike to protest
two months unpaid salaries by government.
NASU members who are expected to shut down
all social amenities such as power and water
supplies, libraries among others, will join their
counterpart in the Senior Staff of Nigerian
Universities, SSANU, who had since Monday
began an indefinite strike over same issue.
It will be recalled that members of the Academic
Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have been on
strike since July 1, paralyzing academic activities
in all public universities.
Vacant lecture theater, University of Ibadan
General Secretary of NASU, Prince Peters Adeyemi
told Vanguard in Ibadan, Oyo State, that
members would definitely begin an indefinite by
tomorrow unless government paid today.
According to him, “It is sad and unfortunate, but
NASU members in all public universities
nationwide will down tools until government pay
them their salaries. The only thing that can stop
the strike is if government pays tomorrow
(today). Our members have been going through
pains in since and have been doing their work
diligently. But the government has refused to pay
their salaries for reasons best known to the
government. That is the issue. So, we are
starting strike by Thursday. It is unfortunate, but
that is the reality.”
Members of SSANU had Monday commenced a
nationwide strike to protest the stoppage of their
salaries for two months by the Federal
Government.
General Secretary of SSANU, Promise Adewusi,
SSANU had while announcing the
commencement of the strike, asked members not
to return to work until a counter directive was
given to them.
Adewusi said the union took the decision following
its letters to the vice-chancellors in various
universities, the Secretary to the Government of
the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim,
Ministers of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka
Wogu and Education, Nyesom Wike as well as the
Executive Secretary, National Universities
Commission, Professor Julius Okojie.

Kampuswindows Xrays the looming effect of NASU strike.

1. Students doing their projects can no longer make use of the laboratories or library facilities as these places would be under lock and key.

2. Students still remaining on campus due to some commitment would have to vacate school hostel premises as potters would be unavailable to attend to them.

3. The entire campus would turn to a mini refuse dump site as cleaners would be unavailable to tend to those matters.

4. Lecturers who still come to their offices would have to run petty errands themselves as no one would be available to help them out.

5. It is a total shutdown of our university system and we can only advise students to go to their homes and find something meaningful to do with their lives.

As for us at Kampuswindows, we are going no where. Trust us to keep you all updated with latest happenings in and around campus.

Contestants for the season 2 of Nigeria’s got talent reality tv show have constantly complained about not knowing the venue of their audition few days to the commencement of screening and audition.
Today OCT 2 is the D-day of Abuja’s audition, yet the venue on the official website of the organisers http://www.nigeriasgottalent.com/audition_info.php. still reads “To be announced soon”.
I can only advise contestants to visit the same venue of last year’s audition as there is a strong likelihood that those venues could still be retained.
We however wish every contestant success in their quest to be the next bright talent to be discovered in our great country Nigeria.

damn! i made the wrong career choice

damn! i made the wrong career choice

You loved every second of your four
undergraduate years. From day one,
you knew this was exactly what you
were meant to do for the rest of your
life. You could see yourself being
fulfilled by a job in this field for many
years to come without losing the least
bit of steam.

There’s just one problem. There are
only about 10 jobs in the whole
country in your field, and about
100,000,001 people are competing for
them.
Actually, there are a few more
problems. Those 10 jobs happen to be
located in places around the country,
far, far away from friends and family.
Also, they pay way below the cost of
living, and there’s no guarantee those
jobs will still exist a couple years from
now. In other words, even though
you’re still motivated and driven to
pursue the career you always knew
was right for you, it’s just not a viable
option anyccmore. The jobs simply
aren’t there.

Think this is hypothetical?

I found myself in this situation when I
graduated with a journalism degree
just as the economy tanked. During
my post-graduation internship with a
major newspaper, I watched the
publication go through two rounds of
layoffs in 12 weeks. Meanwhile I saw
former superstar classmates—the ones
I was certain would become the next
Dangote and Dbanj—lose their jobs
left and right.
My passion for journalism was still
strong, but the instability and
uncertainty of the field made me
realize I needed a new plan.
Five years later, I’ve found my niche as
a Web copywriter. As a journalism
student, I had never considered any
other job. But due to the doom and
gloom surrounding the “death of the
industry,” my journalism-focused self
had to find new focus.

Here’s how you can translate your
skills and passion into a different job
you may not have even known existed:

Focus on what you love so much
about your career of choice. Maybe
you’re one of those people whose job
suddenly went “poof!” Or, all the jobs
in your field seemed to evaporate while
you were in school. Either way, the lack
of jobs doesn’t change your passion
for that job. There’s a reason you
decided to pursue that particular
degree and career.
Figure out what drove you in this
direction. Then, start to brainstorm
what other careers might require those
same skills and passions.
In my case, I loved the way sentences
could be put together to tell stories. I
loved that words could make readers
feel something or teach them
something new. And I loved to geek
out over proper comma placement and
sentence structure.
I didn’t have to be a journalist to
maintain my passion for all those
things. As a copywriter, I still get to tell
different kinds of stories. And I still get
the satisfaction of agonizing over every
single word and piece of punctuation
to craft the perfect sentence.
Identify what you don’t love so much
about your career of choice
You already know what you like about
this career. That’s the easy part. But it
also helps to identify what’s
unattractive about the field.

You may find it hard to accept its faults,
but being realistic about the not-so-
great qualities of your career path will
help you understand and accept why
it’s time to move on.
Maybe you love the good that
nonprofits do, but you don’t love the
stress and overwork that come along
with the lack of funding. Remember,
there are for-profit companies that do
work you can feel good about and still
help people.

Or, you’re a teacher who loves helping
children grow and learn. But as you
struggle to stay on top of common
core standards with the constant
threat of layoffs, administrative
meetings and paperwork, your
motivation is draining. You could
consider becoming a child care
provider. As a nanny, for example,
you’d still be instrumental to children’s
learning and development, but without
as many of the stressful, non-children-
focused aspects of the job.

Of course, I didn’t love the instability of
journalism as I was just getting started
in the field. That was a big part of my
decision to transition to something
else. But I also realized I wasn’t a die-
hard journalist. Breaking the news
wasn’t my thing. As a student, my
concentration had been in magazine
journalism and longer-form
storytelling. If I had loved the thrill of
breaking a story before anyone else
did, I might have stuck with journalism
and fought tooth-and-nail to find and
maintain a job.
I didn’t leave, breathe and die
journalism. I lived, breathed and died
part of it: the writing and storytelling.
Accepting that there were aspects of
this field that were not “me” made it
easier to leave it behind.

CREEP ON WHAT YOUR FORMER CLASSMATES ARE DOING

You’ve already decided that you need
to transition to something else, and
now you have a list of the skills and
passions you want to take with you to
a new role. The next step is to figure
out in which direction, exactly, you
want to head.
Remember you’re not the only one
in this situation.
Your classmates are likely going
through the same path of exploration
as they struggle to find a way to land
on their feet without giving up doing
what they love. Now is the perfect time
to reconnect and see what they’re up
to (or simply creep on their Facebook
and LinkedIn profiles to see where
they’re working nowadays). Some will
be still trying (and hopefully
succeeding) at the original career.
Some will have gone back to school to
start a completely new one. Some will
have fallen back on working for their
family’s business or might seem like
they’re doing nothing much at all. But
there will always be a handful of
people who are doing something
creative. Use them as inspiration as
you decide how to move forward. They
may even offer you some connections
to get your foot in the door to follow
their path.
I saw a lot of classmates who were
freelancing for all sorts of interesting
publications. Few of them were able to
make a full-time salary out of it, but it
was a natural direction to put our
journalism skills to good use and make
a little bit of money while we figured
things out. So I started writing for
online publications for low pay and
even for free. I began to build a small
portfolio of work that any hiring
manager could find by Googling my
name. My Web writing experience
eventually led me to my first junior
copywriting position for a digital public
relations firm.
Do what you’ve always wanted to
do as you figure it out
Not having a stable job is stressful,
and it’s even more stressful if you
don’t know what job you should even
look for. Try to use this limbo as an
opportunity to focus on something
you’ve always wanted to explore but
never had time to do. Look for an
internship or start volunteering in a
field you’ve always been interested in.
When a friend was laid off from his job,
he wasn’t quite sure what direction he
wanted to head in. While he explored
his options, he volunteered at a small
local brewery because he loved beer
and wanted to learn more about the
industry. That’s how he discovered his
passion. He now works for a growing
brewing company helps with their
marketing. He loves his job — much
more than the one he was laid off
from.
It can be disheartening when you feel
like the world is against you and telling
you that you picked the wrong career.
But just because everything hasn’t
gone according to plan doesn’t mean
you have to turn your back to the job
you love and go in a completely
different direction. By following the
above tips, you can just reroute your
career GPS to arrive at a new, equally
fulfilling destination.

The Vice-President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo,
Thursday took over the negotiation with the
striking Academic Staff Union of Universities
(ASUU), in a move to end the lingering strike by
the union.
The new development was the outcome of the
deliberations between Sambo and ASUU’s
delegation held behind closed doors in the State
House for about two hours last night.
At the end of the meeting between the vice-
president and representatives of ASUU, the
contending parties refused to reveal details of
the discussions, hence leaving journalists to
guess if the meeting was fruitful or not.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, ASUU
president, Nasir Isa Fagge, noted that the union
needed to discuss their meeting with their
members and get back to the government.
Asked to assure Nigerians on early resolution of
the crisis, Fagge insisted that as a good
messenger, he would only report back to the
larger ASUU body.
He also refused to divulge the details of
government’s fresh offer.
Also speaking, supervising Minister of Education,
Nyesom Wike, assured Nigerians that students
would soon return to school as government was
ready to make sure all the contending issues are
resolved as soon as possible.
Others in the meeting include former ASUU
presidents, Dr. Dipo Fasina and Dr. Abdullahi
Sule-Kano.
Also in attendance were the Vice-Chancellors of
Bayero University Kano (BUK), University of
Ibadan (UI) and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
University (ATBU) Bauchi, Profs. Abdulrasheed
Abubakar, Isaac Adewole and Muhammed
Hamisu Muhammed.
The Excutive Secretary of the National
Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie
was also at the meeting.
Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam’s
committee had been in charge of the
negotiations since the beginning of the strike
about three months ago with ASUU.
Meanwhile, the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of
Nigerian Federal Universities (CPC) has appealed
to ASUU to end the strike and return to the
classrooms.
The committee, composed by Chairman of
Governing Councils, said the government had
shown commitment to the causes pursued by
the union by sourcing funds for the
disbursement of N130 billion for infrastructure
and payment of earned allowances of the
lecturers.
In a communique issued at the end of its
meeting in Abuja to deliberate on the lingering
strike, the CPC said it had received the
assurances of President Goodluck Jonathan to
provide the balance of the shortfall of the earned
allowances if any, only after due verification by
councils on those entitled to the allowances.
The communique issued yesterday and signed
by the Chairman of the CPC, Prof. Kimse Okoko,
added that the government had promised to
consistently make budgetary and non-budgetary
funds for the revitalisation of the universities
from 2014.
“However, and as we all know, appropriation of
funds fall within the purview of the National
Assembly and that is where we all, including
ASUU will have to appeal to, to ensure that
adequate funds are appropriated,” it read.
It listed the issues in the 2009 FG/ASUU
Agreement, which have already been addressed.
These include consolidated salary structure for all
teaching and non-teaching staff since 2009,
amendment to pensionable retirement age of
academics and registration of Nigerian
Universities Pension Management Company
(NUPEMCO) with N250 million contribution by
the FG.
Other addressed issued are assistance for state
universities through federal intervention agencies
and national health insurance scheme among
others.

This ache’s gleeful ride, I fear ‘is bout to make my head tumble
The pain I feel inside, my soul’s scared it may crumble.
Detesting eventide, my heartbeat begins to fumble.
My eyes beam wide in the dark, still in the end I stumble

You have failed! You pathetic little soul.
Set your sail, it’s time to journey and make your boat row.
To drag you by the tail, my lifelong goal.
Can’t wait to hear them wail; my pleasure it’ll be to see you in the hole.

He is part of the plan; my very essence he is.
He was the reason I ran, to at his temple place a kiss.
For him I became man, accepted the multitude’s hiss
And on him I place a ban; from his life you are dismissed.

Come into my rest, dearly beloved.
You are stuffed with the best; benefactor of my love.
Get up and reach the crest, you who are beloved.
In the end you’ll be my guest; little wonder you are this loved

I’m no longer in the pit, up above I now dwell.
My heart rejoices with every beat, and my soul with hope now swells.
Beautiful indeed will be my feet, as I at the rooftops tell
That the one who in the heavens sit, whispered in my ear “it is well”.

The Academic Staff Union of
Universities, ASUU, has blamed chairman of
universities’ NEEDS Assessment Committee and
governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswam, for
the lingering strike by the union.
According to the union, the governor and his
committee did not advise the Federal
Government properly.
ASUU also accused Suswam of trying to blackmail
the union but warned that no amount of
blackmail or intimidation would stop it from
pursuing the implementation of the 2009 FG/
ASUU agreement, which was the only way to
move the nation’s education forward.
Briefing newsmen at the Michael Okpara
University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State,
the Calabar Zone of the union, led by Dr. Charles
Ononuju, accused the NEEDS Committee of
rushing to release money to pro-chancellors and
vice chancellors, instead of addressing
abnormalities in the NEEDS Report
Implementation Committee.
Flanked by ASUU chairmen at the university of
Calabar, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture,
University of Uyo and Cross River State University
of Technology, Calabar, Ononuju said by throwing
arbitrary awards at the universities, the
government had repudiated the 2009 agreement
and 2012 MoU.
He said: “Since the commencement of the strike,
our union has met with government team for
more than 11 times. After the last meeting, the
union raised some observations/abnormalities on
the Governor Gabriel Suswan-led NEEDS Report
Implementation Committee and communicated
same to the chairman of the committee, Governor
Suswan, expecting a response.
“Rather than responding to the observations
raised by the union that would usher in quick and
peaceful resolution of the impasse, the
government summoned a meeting with pro-
chancellors and vice chancellors and offered to
them N130 billion with a matching order for the
lecturers to return to work, thereby pulling out of
the dialogue.
“Government, by throwing arbitrary awards at
the universities, has in effect repudiated the 2009
Agreement and the MoU of 2012 based on that
agreement. We reject the arbitrary imposition of
money from the government. What makes a
person, an organisation, including government
honourable is honouring an agreement freely
made.
“The government should honour the agreement it
freely entered into with the union since 2009.
ASUU is not making any fresh demands. This is
our position and where we stand and shall
continue to stand.”
Ononuju also attacked Governor Suswam for
accusing the union of playing politics with its
demands, describing the governor’s position as
“false, dishonest, calculated to misinform the
public and cause disaffection towards the union.”
“Rather than seek cheap popularity, he should
tow the part of honour by asking his principal to
honour the agreement.
“We hereby call on our members and the Nigerian
people to reject this cheap blackmail and
continue to stand on the path of truth and social
justice.”
“No amount of blackmail will make the union
jettison our resolve to get the government to
implement the 2009 ASUU/FG Agreement and
MoU of January 24, 2012.
“We wish to emphasise strongly here that our
struggle has no political undertone as is being
falsely and mischievously propagated. Those
saying otherwise are economical with the truth.”
….As SSANU, NASU, others give FG ultimatum
over August salary.

ABUJA—Three other unions in the nation’s
university system, besides the Academic Staff
Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday, gave the
Federal Government till tomorrow to pay the
August salary of members or they will begin an
indefinite strike.
The unions are Senior Staff Association of Nigeria
University, SSANU, National Association of
Technologists, NAAT, and Non Academic Staff
Union, NASU.
President of SSANU, Samson Chijioke Ugwoke, in
a statement said: “I, Samson Chijioke Ugwoke call
on Federal Government of Nigeria to release the
August 2013 salaries of federal university workers
without further delay. Today is September 11,
2013, and August 2013, allocations to Federal
universities are yet to be released and no one has
given reasons for the delay.
“This situation is unhealthy and it is bringing
untold hardship to the workers, their families and
dependents. SSANU and other sister unions in
Joint Action Committee, JAC, will be forced to
review her stand with the Federal Government if
by Friday, August 13, 2013, the salaries of our
members are not paid”.

LAGOS — Rival cultists, Tuesday night, clashed in
Somolu and Ketu areas of Lagos, leaving four
persons dead and several others injured.
In Ajelogo area of Ketu, it was gathered that
suspected members of Eiye confraternity stormed
a suspected rival’s home identified simply as Seyi
in the wee hours of Monday.
He was dragged outside and clubbed to death,
after the cultists had raped his wife in front of him
and flung his nine-month old baby out of the bed.
Vanguard gathered that three persons were
arrested by policemen from Alapere division. The
suspects said to have been transferred to the
state Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba,
were reportedly leaving the scene when they
were accosted.
Seyi’s widow, who is yet to come to terms with
her husband’s demise, told policemen at the
station that there had been threats on her
husband’s life by the cultists, who accused him of
being an informant to another cult group, Black
Axe confraternity.
The Somolu clash
Meanwhile, in Somolu area of Lagos, Tuesday
night, what was described as a reprisal attack on
the group that killed Seyi left three persons dead.
The cultists were said to have stormed Ajose area,
where they first shot one Tunde dead. The late
Tunde’s assailants were said to have accused him
of raping one of their member’s pregnant wife
during an earlier attack in Ponrele area of Abule
Ijesha.
The attack said to have started at 10.30 pm was
launched at Fadipe, Popoola and Oreofe areas.
Vanguard gathered that while the cultists were
approaching a street in Bariga, their rival group
laid ambush for them. Dangerous weapons such
as cutlasses, axes and gun were said to have
been freely used in the ensuing fight.
Contacted, spokesperson for the Lagos State
Police Command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the
clash in Epe
She said though there was claim that only one
person died during the clash but no official report
had been made to that effect. She noted that the
police had not seen any corpse either.

This is a laudable idea. They (phone manufacturers) don’t only have to make money from the society but should also give back to the society.

Yinka-Gbadebo-NANS-President

Yinka-Gbadebo-NANS-President

The National Association of Nigerian Students
(NANS) has removed Yinka Gbadebo as its
leader, replacing him with its Vice-President,
Jubril Ahmed.
In a statement, NANS Senate President
Emaluyi Sunday Michael said Gbadebo was
impeached at a meeting of stakeholders on
September 7 under Section 49(1) of the
constitution. That provision states: “The
president can be impeached on the grounds
of incompetence or as therefore by his
attitude or action which can be classified/
regarded as misconduct”.
It accused Gbadebo of inability to serve the
primary purpose of NANSto protect the
general interest of all Nigerian students both
at home and in Diaspora, “before the
institutions, government, parastatals,
stakeholders and even other countries
policies.”
The statement cited the current impasse
between the federal government and
university teachers which has seen Nigerian
students sitting at home for 65 days, saying
Gbadebo was found wanting in the challenge
of bringing both parties together.
“Rather he is aligning with a particular party
and indulging in “Ghana-must-Go protest,”
the statement said, adding that the
“dilapidated and maggoty condition of
Nigerian universities is of no concern to
Ayefele.”
PRESS RELEASE ON THE PASSAGE OF VOTE
OF NO CONFIDENCE ON COMRADE YINKA
GBADEBO a.k.a AYEFELE BY THE NATIONAL
ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS
SENATE ARM
Held on 7th of September, 2013 at Wellington
Conference Hall, D.S.C Express Road,Effurun
Delta State; at 10:00am prompt.
Distinguished senators, stakeholders, senior
cadres, National comrades, invited NGOs,
congress-men, contemporaries, Nigeria
students present, gentlemen and ladies of the
press, Greatest Nigeria Students.
The primary reason for the formation of
National Association of Nigeria Students
(NANS) some decades ago was for the
purpose of Nigeria students’ welfarism,
protecting the general interest of all Nigerian
students both at home and in Diaspora,
before the institutions, government,
parastatals, stakeholders and even other
countries policies. This has however been cut
– off, abandoned, rejected and marginalized
by the “Australopithecus” Gbadebo led
administration.
The Nigerian educational system especially
that of the tertiary institution has witnessed
topsy – turvy because of its hydra headed and
centrally maggoty state, and the Comrade
Yinka Gbadebo “barren” cabinet has done less
than little in its revival.
It is pitiable at this juncture to state that the
Ayefele regime has done more harm than
good to the Nigerian Students as he does not
know his duty as the numero uno Nigerian
student, controlling over seventy (70) million
Nigerian students at home and in diaspora.
Sadly, Nigeria students have been deprive of
their fundamental right to higher education
for sixty- five (65) days by intentionally
remanding them in their various homes over
the quagmire between ASSU and the federal
government, yet the NANS president has
been found wanting in his inability to bring
both parties on the same page. Rather he is
aligning with a particular party and indulging
in “Ghana-must-Go protest”. It is therefore
obvious that the dilapidated and maggoty
condition of Nigerian universities is of no
concern to Ayefele.
Moreso, we have lost Nigerian students in
recent insurgent attacks in the northern part
of the country and the NANS president had
paid deaf ears to the calamity Nigerian
students are undergoing during this trial
period. However, consequent to the
constitution of the National Association of
Nigeria Students’ national body, the provision
of section 49 pointedly provides for the
grounds on which the NANS president can be
removed from office or impeached. The
aforementioned section 49(1) states that:
“The president can be impeached on the
grounds of incompetence or as therefore by
his attitude or action which can be classified/
regarded as misconduct”.
It is in this regard that I, comrade Emaluyi
Sunday Michael, the Senate President of
National Association of Nigerian Students; in
the interest of Nigerian students and for the
purpose of their adequate welfarism hereby
subject to the “consensus addendum”
reached in the Senate congress meeting
earlier this week by Senate leaders: Babale P.
Bala, Deputy Senate – President; Sen. Joseph
J. Olatunde, Clerk; and other distinguished
Senators namely Sen. Morphy Moch, Sen.
Comrade Ojamomi Fashola A, Sen. Pam
Ayuba, Sen. Daniel Sunday, sen. Emeka
Jonathan, Sen. Abdulfatah Sule, Sen. Kehinde
Ilori, Sen. Jimoh Raheem. Others include Sen.
Mathew Earnet, Sen. Elumelu Tony, Sen.
Patrick Nkechi, Sen. Donald Michael, Sen.
Taye Sarumi, Sen. Bolaji Akande, Sen. Arome
Abu and 94 other senators present, hitherto
passed a “Vote of no confidence” on the NANS
president Comrade Yinka Gbadebo a.k.a
Ayefele on the grounds of incompetence,
gross misconduct, sabotage, abuse of office,
selfish alliance and also using NANS
presidential office as a window of ventilation
for the purpose of personal aggrandizement.
This decision takes effect from this day 7th of
September, 2013
The doctrine of necessity therefore applies as
the Vice – President Comrade Jubril Ahmed
takes charge of the Presidential Office.
Conclusively, the new Vice – President shall be
sworn in on the 11th of September, 2013,
venue to be communicated on air.
We also use this medium to call on the FG and
ASUU to reach a compromise at the fastest
possible means as students who have
unnecessarily stayed at home are threatening
to embark on actions that may cause
nationwide unrest, corrosive aluta awakening
and edu – sociological jihad.
Aluta Continua, Victoria Acerta.
Thank you all, God bless you, God bless
Nigerian students, God bless Federal republic
of Nigeria

Oshodin-Osayuki

Oshodin-Osayuki

Affected staff ruined the lives of 142 students…
University of Benin (UNIBEN) Governing Council
recently sacked 44 staff of the institution
allegedly involved in allegations that bordered on
gross misconduct. But since the decision was
taken, the Vice-Chancellor of the university,
Professor Osayuki Oshodin, says he has not had
peace. Recuperating from alleged food poisoning,
he raised the alarm that some of those sacked by
the university Council were after his life. In this
interview, Oshodin alleges that some of the
sacked staff were involved in sexual harassment,
extortion and fake admissions which resulted in
the rustication of 142 students. He also speaks on
the current ASUU strike. Excerpts:
44 staff of the University of Benin including senior
lecturers were sacked recently, triggering
petitions accusing you of being behind their
ordeal. What is your take on that?
I am not behind their sack. Some of them collected money from students and the students
have since been dismissed and they named them.
The procedure for sacking people, the Vice
Chancellor does not have a hand in it. First of all,
the Intelligence Unit of the university sometimes
dictates some of these things or, when they are
reported to by students, they are now sent to the
Disciplinary Committee. The Vice Chancellor is not
a member of the Disciplinary Committee. The
Committee will meet and make recommendation
to Council. The Council take the ultimate decision
and nobody can influence the Council.
Council is made up of over fifteen members, so
how can one person influence them? We have
four sound lawyers in the Council, one of them is
a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). A former
senator is the Chairman of the Council and other
respectable Nigerians. So, I don’t know what they
are talking about. I can show you the rules and
regulations, they are all spelt out there. You can
recommend somebody to the Council and say the
person should be freed due to one reason or the
other, but the Council can say no , the person
must be punished.
So it has nothing to do with the VC. It is sad that
these people talking and calling the name of the
VC do not even talk about the crime they
committed. What most of them did can be
described as crime against humanity. Many of
them collected money from students; engaged in
sexual harassment, extortion, fake admission.
People who did not take JAMB, who did not pass
post-UME, who did not have SSCE were cleared
by these people. So what has their crimes got to
do with the VC? It was purely a Council decision
and they were dismissed after investigations.
Ungodly act. A situation
where you sexually harass a student and you are now disciplined, you
look for who to blame and say
you are being victimized. How can you collect N50,000 from a student and you say you are doing the right
thing? Some of them were even caught red handed. There was a case whereby security agents were pursuing the person inside the
campus. Is it not ridiculous? A big man running round the campus after he collected the money but he did not know security men were watching
him. It is wicked to collect money from a poor student who can hardly feed. Parents are even suffering to get school fees and you are collecting
N50,000 from them. What shocked me most is
that even female lecturers were involved.
I did not know that female lecturers can be
involved in extorting money from students. I
thought that women are mothers and they are
motherly, that was the shocker I got. It is a
shame. And I heard that some of them had
taught in other universities before and they were
thrown out. And this was why the Council insisted
that their names must be published in
newspapers so that they will not go to another
university and continue to perpetrate their evil.
Majority of them had been in the business for
twenty years. As a result, some people have gone
to the internet to publish more names that we
should look as they are also extorting students.
Yet they are abusing the management of the
university for the action but they forgot that 142
students that were to graduate could not
graduate because these corrupt staff admitted
them without basic requirements.
You know that at the point of entry, they are
screened, at the point of departure, they are also
screened; it was at the point of departure ‘that
we discovered these 142. Some have spent five
years, six years, four years but unfortunately,
those years were wasted. So those ones were
punished and you that admitted them that was
supposed to advise them rightly, you expect to
stay, no way. It will be ungodly to allow only the
students and parents to suffer it. Those who
perpetrated the act deserve punishment and that
was the decision of Council. They ruined the life of
those students because they have to go and start
afresh.
One of the staff that was dismissed was selling
biometric data, and he was not supposed to. I
have children and I will not allow some body do
that to them, what they did was wicked and evil.I
was shocked with the revelations because I never
believed some of them were involved in some of
these crimes. When I got to Council, where I was
trying to plead for somebody because the person
is a first offender, it was the first time something
has been reported against him, it was then that
the Chairman of Council brought out a petition he
wrote against me. I was shocked. When you go
on the internet, you will see the remarks of former
students who said it was good they were caught.
When did you notice this level of corrupt
practices in the university?
We never had a Governing Council for almost two
years, so the Security Unit of the university had
been gathering this information. So when they
say I am the one that took the decision, why did I
not take the decision before the Council came. I
don’t have that kind of power, it is the Governing
Council that has the power to appoint and to
dismiss, not the VC. I did not even see the report
until it got to the Governing Council.
Challenges
We have been promoting infrastructural
development and academic development. We
have new programmes which are putting us
ahead of other universities, not only in Nigeria but
worldwide. We are relating to international
institutions, that is what academic is all about,
not these frivolous petitions people are writing
because they don’t like the truth and they are
enemies of progress. I want to take UNIBEN to the
upper most height before the end of my tenure.
We are the best in Nigeria. We are the most
sought after university in Nigeria, JAMB can
confirm to you that more people apply to go to
UNIBEN than any other university in Nigeria. That
is not just a coincidence, it is a result of the kind
of things we are doing there academically.
There was this report some time ago that the
Inspector General of Police ordered the
investigation of your activities?
I am not aware of that. It is all propaganda that is
being carried out by one of those people who lost
their jobs. One of them has written various
frivolous petitions, he does not even know the
regulations on the appointment of Heads of
Department, it is the prerogative of the VC to
appoint anybody as long as the person is a senior
lecturer and above. That is the bone of contention
of one particular person who felt he should be a
Director. And this is the person who stayed in one
position for eleven years and was never promoted
until I became Vice Chancellor. I promoted him
and employed his wife in the university, he is the
one writing frivolous petitions. Investigate me
over what? These are lies and propaganda being
peddled to rubbish my administration but they
have failed because we are moving on whether
they like it or not.
We learnt your life is being threatened and that
you were even poisoned recently?
Yes I have been passing through hell but I am not
afraid God is my protector. It is these people that
lost their jobs that are threatening my life and, as
we are speaking, they have not given up. So if
anything happens to me, all of them should be
held responsible, especially one particular man
who is fond of writing frivolous petitions. He is
being used, others are hiding under him to
perpetrate the crime but we know all of them.
The problem is that there was so much corruption
in the university before I took over as VC and they
wanted me to do it the way they ran the place
before and I said no. I want this place to develop,
I have more at stake in this university than any
one of them. I know how the land was given to
the Federal Government for the university to be
sited there, part of it is my family land.
There was no compensation paid to us, but we
did not make noise about it, yet some persons
think they can colonize the place with their
corrupt practices. I was even poisoned by these
people but I survived. When God is with you, you
are fully protected. I believe that God sent me to
the university for a purpose and He will not want
me to die on the job. I believe they are wasting
their time. Nobody believed that I will be Vice-
Chancellor; if you know all the wrangling then,
you will know what I am talking about. I did not
join any group to fight for it, it was the hand work
of God, God gave me the position and God is
protecting me and He will protect me to the end
of my tenure. And those who want to fight God
will face his wrath.
Are you not worried about the prolonged ASUU
strike?
We all are worried. But I believe that through
dialogue and understanding, the issues will be
resolved soon. There is nothing that cannot be
solved through dialogue. The thing is that if we
have good communication with the unions, we
won’t have problems. This is my fourth year as
VC, I have not had any problem with the unions
and that is because of my open door policy. I told
them if there are things you don’t like that I do,
please call me to order. I have an open-door
policy and the union members are human beings,
they are understanding too. It is usually better to
dialogue and find solutions to problems.
Are you saying dialogue is the secret of you
success so far?
My doors are wide open for everybody. If there
are problems, we discuss them; the ones I can
solve immediately, I will solve, the ones I cannot, I
will appeal to them to give me some time. For
example, when I took over, I met a backlog of
promotion arrears up to ten, twelve years and I
paid it gradually. Those are their entitlements.
You know in the university system, we run it like a
community; it is not a one man show. So you
involve them so they actually see what is going
on, you won’t have any problem. It is only when
you exclude them in the running of the university
that you have a problem. Like this issue of
termination of appointment of some staff, the
Vice-Chancellor has nothing to do with it.
My dream for UNIBEN
I want to see UNIBEN on top; in Nigeria, they are
already on top but, before the end of my tenure, I
want to see them among the first one hundred
universities in the world. That is my dream.
There is this rumour that youre nursing
governorship ambition?
I am not a politician. This rumour is being
peddled by the same people who do not mean
well for the university. They have said all sorts of
things. I am an academician so I wonder where
they are getting their information from – it is still
part of the mischief and I have decided to ignore
it. God will judge.

ASUU president, Dr. Nasir-Fagge-Isa

ASUU president, Dr. Nasir-Fagge-Isa

Academic Staff Union of Universities,
ASUU, yesterday, said that the only thing that
would make its striking members go back to the
classrooms is the full implementation of the 2009
agreement and not any new offer or palliatives
from the Federal Government.
President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, who stated
this in a telephone interview with Vanguard in
Abuja, said it was better to get it right once and
for all instead of palliative measures that would
not help the system compete with other
universities in the world.
Fagge said that government had established the
attitude of making promises without fulfilling
them and that until the 2009 agreement was
implemented, universities will remain closed.
Beyond offers
He said: “The problem is that we have gone
beyond the point of making offers now. We have
a comprehensive agreement, which was arrived
at after three years of negotiation from 2006.
“We had demands from both sides— ASUU and
government— and like I said earlier, we reduced
those two demands into an agreement within
three years of negotiations.
“And at this point, we are talking of the
implementation of the agreement. So, at this
point, government should not be talking or
making offers. If government wasn’t ready to
implement the agreement, government shouldn’t
have signed the agreement.
‘Gov’s antics’
“What is becoming clear to us is that government
is still going back to its usual antics. We signed an
agreement.
“Government will just single out what affects the
staff directly to implement and then expect them
to go back and continue the deception in the
system.
“Without good research, teaching and effective
delivery of production of knowledge, universities
cannot move and this is why the nation has been
blaming us for the kind of students we are
graduating in our universities.
“So what we are saying is that we are also tired of
this. What we want is let the agreement be
implemented and then we look at the impact of
the implementation.
“Then if there is the need for us to review the
situation, we will do it through another round of
negotiations. But at this point, we are not talking
about making offers. Government made offers on
negotiation table between 2006 and 2009.”

OKONJO IWEALA(minister of finance)

OKONJO IWEALA(minister of finance)

There ap-pears to be no end in sight to
the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union
of Universities, ASUU, in the country as Minister of
Finance and Coordinating Minister for the
Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala declared,
yesterday, that the nation’s economy cannot
accommodate the demands of the lecturers for
now.
The minister spoke while delivering her keynote
address at the opening ceremony of this year’s
National Council on Finance and Economic
Development, NACOFED, in Minna, Niger State,
yesterday.
Okonjo-Iweala
She said that if other sectors were to be
adequately and urgently developed, less
emphasis should be placed on recurrent
expenditure, especially salaries and allowances of
workers.
According to her, “at present, ASUU wants
government to pay N92 billion in extra allowances
over and above their salaries. Though we are in
discussion with them, the problem is that the
resources to take care of the demands are simply
not there.”
She said that with the present situation in the
country, Nigerians need to make a choice.
She said: “People are supportive when there is
agitation to increase salaries, pensions among
others.
“But on the other hand, people also turn around
to say the recurrent budget is too high and there
is no way you can have it both ways and so we
have to make specific choices in this country.”
Cause
Okonjo-Iweala noted that the country was still
suffering from the impact of the wage increase in
2010, adding that by the time other demands are
added, the recurrent budget will be getting
higher, thus leaving virtually nothing for capital.
She said: “Do we want to get to a stage when
virtually all the monies and resources we earn are
being used to pay salaries and allowances for
public servants, who make up a minute
percentage of the country’s population?
“If we do, it means that government workers will
take up the entire budget of the country with
nothing left for roads, water, education and
others.”
She, therefore, challenged the commissioners and
other stakeholders to use the conference to find
permanent solutions to the lingering financial
problems in order to move the nation forward.

They call her a weaker vessel and say she has no power
Yet for 9 months she carries life in her womb just so she can be a mother
She is truly caring, with her heart so tender.
For all day she prays for a home that nothing can put asunder

Even when she is faced with challenges
All over
Its a man’s world! they would say, she can never be a leader
But she strives against all odds that someday she would be a winner
A virtuous woman she is, the type to take home to mama

In dignity and honour she carries the pride of woman hood
from her wedding night back to the days of her childhood
Making her husband the first and only to be served that special food

Even when she is beaten and severely maltreated
Yet she stays in the home and prays for love unbounded
For the sake of my children oh! Lord
Pls keep my home from hatred
With tears in her eyes she still makes everyone feel loved and wanted

Nothing can measure the love that abounds in her fragile heart
For her eyes is so charming, it could melt even the strongest of hearts

she is a special and priceless African queen
Whose strength though as small as a mustard seed
Can lift up burdens with her golden deed.

Could this be love? Or A curse? Rather a result of the scarce of manhood?

Read through and tell us your objective view.

True love can take many forms. In
this case, it has taken the form of an
Australian artist marrying a 600-
year-old French bridge. Jodi Rose
took her love for the structures to
another level as she wedded the Le Pont du Diable
Bridge in Céret,
southern France. The new Mrs Le
Pont du Diable has spent the last
decade travelling across the globe
recording the vibrations in bridge
cables to incorporate in her Singing Bridges music project.

Rose knew it was love at first sight when she set eyes on the ‘sensual’ 14th
century bridge, as she apparently
felt the earth move as she drew
closer. Naturally, it was only a matter of time before they became “bridge and wife”.

The happy couple
got hitched on June 17 and while
they might not have had the most
conventional marriage, they
enjoyed elements of a traditional wedding. The ceremony was an
intimate affair with 14 guests
including close personal friends and
members of the local community.

Even the mayor of neighbouring
town Saint-Jean-de-F os gave his blessing. Choosing the venue was
simple enough and the pair made
their vows at the groom’s
entrance. Rose wore a custom bridal
gown and veil, and commissioned
rings for both her and the bridge. The groom, otherwise
known as The Devil’s Bridge, was quiet on their big day, but it was clear there are no trust issues between the
newlyweds as the bridge is very
supportive of his wife’s music project. ‘He understands that I love other bridges – and men – ours is a love that embraces the vagaries of life, as materialised in the swirling currents of the river that flows beneath his magnificent body,’ Rose wrote on her website. ‘The
Devil’s Bridge is everything I could
desire in a husband – sturdy,
trustworthy, sensual, kind and
handsome,’ she added. Their
union is not legally recognised in France, but Rose claims their marriage is as strong as any other.
‘This is not a decision I undertake
lightly, just as our curves
complement, we truly bring joy to
each other, and the strength of his pylons will always
carry me home.’ She has insisted, however, that their love is a symbolic and pagan affair as part of a world view
that sees ‘spiritual vibration in
everything’ CRAZY IN LOVE was meant for this
lady!…

Speaking of women marrying bridges — you ever
notice how when women marry inanimate objects,
they’re usually large structures like the Berlin Wall or
the Eiffel Tower, but when men marry inanimate
objects, they tend to be cars or sex dolls or pillows
with anime characters on them?

From Corporate madness, to Legal madness…….what is life turning into.
She can now kiss the bridge…Lwpm.!!

POETRY IN YOUR MOTHER TONGUE
“Testimony or Test-Agony?”…Excerpt.

Like a FITNESS coach, hard life Exercised me to be HUSTLE-CALLY fit.

And as a TECHNICAL ADVISER hard work advised me, “boy, no be who wear FINE LACE, naim Society go give FINE PLACE(social status)”.

Then as a FOOTBALL Coach, starvation chose my labor or SUFFER FORMATION as 24/7, while my FEEDING FORMATION as 0-0-1, 0-1-0, and 1-0-0.

The STREET was my daily playing GROUND, and shabby used clothes, I wore daily to play GROUND,
Hustle hard and Gambled Hard, was my playing PLAN,
while STINGINESS and IGNORANCE was my N0.1 FAN.

I been think say I poor because of my living PLACE,
So I moved my properties including my suit case, to my new living place.

So one morning as I lied down on a dirty mat in my new living space, hunger knock d door to my feeding SPACE, with an ANGRY FACE, squeezed like a cheap old LACE,

I come halla, hunger! who invited u to my living space and feeding space, then he shouted “shut up”! “fasting and prayer no go change ur BROKE CASE”,

how u go call this place a living PLACE, instead of a suffering PLACE, na so my lean shadow….replied “may be him dey CRAZE”, hunger continued. ” boy! E be like say ur case na MENTAL CASE”, how u go change ur PHYSICAL PLACE, without a change of MENTAL PLACE, SPIRITUAL PLACE, and SOCIAL PLACE?”

“boy! u better do something about ur FINANCIAL CASE, bcos my boss “poverty” no dey look UCHE FACE. I rest my CASE”

ABUJA—The Federal Government, yesterday,
begged the Academic Staff Union of Universities,
ASUU, to return to classrooms, as the union
insisted that the strike would continue unless
agreements between it and government were
implemented.
The strike which began last week, entered its
second week yesterday, even as the union and
Education Ministry officials appear before the
National Assembly today.
Minister of Education, Professor Ruqquayat Rufa’i,
who made the appeal, said the union should call
off its strike in the interest of students.
Rufa’i said: “We are going to meet with ASUU and
all those that are concerned at the Senate today.
We are going to appear before the Senate and
the House Committee on Education and we are
pleading with ASUU to go back to classroom and
let our children go back to school.”
Speaking to Vanguard, ASUU President, Dr Isa
Nasir Fagge Isa, however, said the strike would
continue until the Federal Government faithfully
implemented agreement in the Memorandum of
Understanding, MoU reached between both
parties.
Strike to continue unless…
He said: “On whether the strike will continue or
be called off is dependent on government’s
decision. If the government does what is right, I assure you that we will call off the strike
immediately, we will look at what government has and we will review the situation.
“We don’t have to inform anybody that we are taking an action when it becomes clear to us that what we are doing cannot make any headway.
We looked at all the options available before embarking on the strike.
“I must remind you that a strike is a fundamental
right of a worker, if it becomes clear to a worker that the dialogue with his employer is becoming the dialogue of the deaf and dump, the worker
has the right to withdraw his services, that is a fundamental right, it is enshrined in the ILO
conventions and it is part of the right of Nigerian citizens.
“We have realised that each time we reached an agreement with the government, government
finds it difficult to implement the provisions of the agreement and that is the reason our members
advised that we just go back to the trenches. “You should ask the government, out of the nine
provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding we had how many have been implemented?
“Out of the provisions, government had been able to implement two which is the “review of the
retirement age of academics on the professional cadre from 65 to 70 years and the reinstatement
of the governing council of universities”. “It will be recalled that government without
notice dissolved the governing board of universities, and we took it up that, the
government action will not favour the university system.
“Of all the problems identified in the Need Assessment report, how many have been implemented? Our universities are still the way
they are, we don’t want to continue deceiving
ourselves. We expect that dialogue should produce results, we have been dialoguing for one and half years and we are tired of doing that, we
want actions”, he insisted.
“What we need to do is to ensure that we
implement the recommendations of that report,
but sadly, we have had an agreement with the government in 2009 on four issues which include:
Funding, University autonomy and Academic freedom and then conditions of service and other matters but four years after, the provisions of the agreement have not been implemented.

On the morning of Saturday,
Islamic extremists killed 29 students and an English teacher Mohammed Musa, who was shot in the chest.
Islamic militants attacked a boarding school in northeast Nigeria before dawn Saturday, killing29 students and one teacher. Some of the pupils were burned alive in the latest school attack blamed on a radical terror group, survivors said.
Parents screamed in anguish as they tried to identify the charred and gunshot victims.
Farmer Malam Abdullahi found the bodies of two of his sons, a 10-year-old shot in the back as he apparently tried to run away, and a 12-year-old shot in the chest.
“That’s it, I’m taking my other boys out of school,” he told The Associated Press as he wept over the two corpses. He said he had three younger children in a nearby school.
“It’s not safe,” he said. “The gunmen are attacking schools and there is no protection for students despite all the soldiers.”
Survivors at the Potiskum General Hospital andits mortuary said gunmen attacked Government Secondary School in Mamudo village, 5 kilometers (3 miles) from Potiskum town at about 3 a.m. Saturday. The gunmen arebelieved to be from the Boko Haram sect whose name means “Western education is sacrilege.”
They killed 29 students and an English teacher Mohammed Musa, who was shot in the chest according to another teacher, Ibrahim Abdu.
“We were sleeping when we heard gunshots. When I woke up, someone was pointing a gun at me,” said 15-year-old Musa Hassan.
He put his arm up in defense, and suffered a gunshot that blew off all four fingers on his right hand, the one he uses to write with.
He said the gunmen came armed with jerry cans of fuel that they used to torch the school’sadministrative block and one of the hostels.
“They burned the children alive,” he said, the horror showing in his wide eyes.
He and teachers at the morgue said dozens of children from the 1,200-student school escapedinto the bush but have not been seen since.
Some bodies are so charred they could not be identified, so many parents do not know if theirchildren survived or died.
Islamic militants from Boko Haram and breakaway groups have killed more than 1,600 civilians in suicide bombings and other attacks since 2010, according to an Associated Press count.
Scores of schools have been burned down in the past year in northeast Nigeria.
President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency May 14, and deployed thousandsof troops to halt the insurgency, acknowledgingthat militants had taken control of some towns and villages.
The military has claimed success in regaining control of the area — the states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe . However, the area covers some 155,000 square kilometers (60,000 square miles) or one-sixth of the sprawling country.
Soldiers say they have killed and arrested hundreds of fighters.
But the crackdown, including attacks with fighter jets and helicopter gunships on militant camps, appears to have driven the extremists into rocky mountains with caves, from which they emerge to attack schools and markets.
The militants have increasingly targeted civilians, including health workers on vaccination campaigns, teachers and government workers.
Farmers have been driven from their land by the extremists and by military roadblocks, raising the specter of a food shortage to add to the woes of a people already hampered by the military’s shutdown of cell phone service and ban on using satellite telephones.

Leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Wednesday accused the federal government of being unwilling to resolve the crisis that has crippled academic activities in polytechnics across the country.
National President of ASUP, Chibuzor Asomugha in a telephone interview with Vanguard said that since the federal government had remained adamant over the implementation of agreements entered with the union, the polytechnics would remain closed till when government would be ready to do the necessary thing.
Asomugha noted that the union had made spirited efforts to make government see the need to implement the agreements, stating that ASUP leadership had met with the Ministers of Education and Labour about three weeks ago to resolve the imbroglio but to no avail.
He said that out of about 15 demands of the union only one which was constitution of governing council was half met while about six governing councils were yet to be constituted, adding, “Government has not listened to us in any measure of engagement.”
The ASUP President said that going by the lip service the federal government was paying to the polytechnic education in the country, the strike would last as long as possible till the time the government would listen and implement the agreement entered into.

Our students have waited too long at home in vain just because of this incessant strikes that has painted a dark shadow on our educational system.
Enough is enough! We need a lasting solution to this ugly cliché called “strike” so that pride can be restored back to our ivory towers

NANS president Mr. Yinka Gbadebo

NANS president Mr. Yinka Gbadebo

The President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Yinka Gbadebo has told Nigerians to hold the Nigerian Police Force responsible if anything happens to him.
The Police were said to have threatened Gbadebo, ordering him to do thorough investigations before blaming them for the incident. Gbadebo spoke in Ibadan after he was released by men of the Oyo State Joint SecurityTask Force, codenamed ‘Operation Burst’.
He said they have been making calls to him following his statement that the IGP should resign owing to the incessant killings of Nigerian students by the Police Force in the lastsix months directly or indirectly. He also said that normalcy would not return to the University of Uyo, UNIUYO, until the VC, Prof. Comfort Ekpo is removed.
He charged the Federal Government to remove the woman with immediate effect as according to him, “her negligence and ineptitude led to the killing of our senate president and other comrades.”
Meanwhile, the family of the late former Oyo State NANS JCC chairman, Oladimeji AbdulAzeez, was contacted early Monday morning. It would be recalled that the deceased who graduated from the University of Ibadan, hailed from Ibadan South East Local Government.
Gbadebo and others, as at the time of filing this report, were on their way to Lagos to inform Donald’s family officially about the incident after which he will move to Owerri to collect the bodies of the “fallen martyrs” and later to FMC Umuahia to visit the survivors of the auto crash.

Our hearts goes out to our fallen heroes. You will surely be remembered in the sacred fountain of the hearts of every Nigerian student.

The Governing Council of University of Benin (UNIBEN) has terminated the appointment of 18 senior staff of the university.
The former bursar of the institution, Mrs May Nwoye, was also asked to proceed on compulsory retirement by the Council. Nwoye was said to have abandoned his duty post after she left the office of bursar.
Meanwhile, the university has been ranked as the most sought after institution in the country with a total number of 102,900 applicants in 2013, while universities of Ilorin, Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe and University of Nigeria Nsukka came second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Those were contained in a statement by the UNIBEN Registrar, Mrs G.O.Ogboghodo.
Kampuswindows also gathered that a professor from the department of chemical engineering was also dismissed by the school authority due to gross misconduct on his part.

ABU DAVID: I am the first born of my family, and besides I have been a leader from my childhood days. I was the head boy of my primary school and also, I was a labour prefect in my secondary school days. I am also the program cordinator for Business Student Association District 1 Lagos.

KW: What can you say are your achievements so far?

ABHU DAVID: My definition of achievement is to make other people to become great leaders as well. I believe that writing my name in the minds of people is better than writing it in the book of records. However, I was one of the best executives in Business Student Association 2010.

KW: Who are your role models?

ABU DAVID: spiritually I would say my role model is Rev James Iyanda, while in the aspect of leadership, my role model is Nelson Mandela, as for Business wise, I would say I have non yet.

KW: Are u into business at the moment?

ABU DAVID: Am not into business at the moment, but in 3 – 4 years time I will certainly be a key player in the business circle.

KW: Tell us about some of the challenges you have encountered in your pursuit for becoming a great leader?

ABU DAVID: Organising people is not really easy, you need credibility to be trusted. Another challenge I have encountered is finance to effectively organise events.

KW: How have you been able to deal with these challenges?

ABU DAVID: I am a people and truth oriented person. I have engaged myself in extra curricular activities to get financial gains. It has not been easy. There was a time when I worked as a caterer going out to serve in events. I even functioned as a waiter. Sometimes I get abused and slapped because of the nature of my job. Right now, I am a consultant for Elizade University Ondo State Nigeria and am also a consultant for Legacy Business School.

KW: What is your unique selling point that makes you stand out from others?

ABU DAVID. I strongly believe in God, and I do my best to be credible coupled with the fact that I am people oriented. I believe these traits makes me stand out.

KW: What are your future prospects?

ABU DAVID: “wow! My future prospect, that is five years from now, I plan to be involved in 20 companies directly or indirectly.
Also I will be hosting the “S.T.A.R.S”(students Training and Re-education Summit) project, because that is my Ministry. I also see my self to have built four mobile application for students”.
KW: are you planing to run an NGO in the future?
ABU David: “yeah! Because social dysfunctions has given birth to prostitution and thieves everywhere. I’m also planning of giving back to the society through donations and support at the motherless babies home, which I have inculcated on my birthday’s celebration”.

KW: Tell us about Green Ambassador Nigeria?

ABU DAVID: Green ambassador Nigeria is the vision of Chinule Bright, a Fresh graduate of Benson Idahosa University Edo state. It is about giving hope to under privilege children and the less informative people in the society. It also serves as a platform that gives hope to the hopeless such as prostitutes, beggars etc who roam the streets. It is not restricted for the campus community alone.

KW: Aside Green Ambassadors Nigeria, what other organisation are you involved in?

ABU DAVID: Aside G.A.N, i am also involved in Business Student Association. It is a camping of students from different secondary schools who will be trained on effective leadership. We are presently preparing a camp for 150 students in Lagos.

KW; What are your advise for other Youths?
ABU DAVID: “well….the first, is to know God. The second is to know your passion and purpose. If your purpose and passion will not give you food….you must rethink! Your passion will certainly put food on your table, its a spiritual law”.

KW: Thank you for being on kampuswindows today

ABU DAVID: It has been my pleasure.
